None other than the simplest products have a microcontroller as their basis. To speed development we have produced our own core board which provides the environment for the micro and its supporting hardware. This is a good example of a board level product involving electronic design and pcb artwork.
Board Level Example - Microcontroller System Core
Again controlled by a micro, this desk top unit was designed to drive a special purpose machine and determined the rotational speed, pitch and total number of turns to be applied around a former. The winding was subsequently encapsulated and used as a component in a later part of the client’s process.
Desk Top Example - Spiral Winding Machine Controller
We were asked to produce a system to control a laboratory pump to be used in the evaluation of artificial blood vessel designs. Our solution was a microcontroller based desktop box for real time control coupled to a power driver with the whole arrangement being monitored and controlled by a PC.

Control Panel Example - Criticality Monitoring System
As part of the safety requirement of a nuclear plant decommissioning programme we designed and built a 19” rack style system to oversee sensors on the site and report system status to various monitoring locations. The equipment took the form of a number of panels connected by modems.
